The
Aspen Junior Golf Foundation was founded in 1987. Since that time it
has grown from 20 juniors to over 375
each season. While a good portion of children
come from Aspen, the balance come from towns throughout the
Roaring
Fork Valley. The primary goals and operating objectives of the
foundation is to introduce the game to all
of the children in the
valley. If a child shows an interest in the game we have the programs,
equipment, and
instruction that will support the individual goals that
they choose to establish.
Our golf program is designed to
administer programs that facilitate mentor ship, emotional and
intellectual
development and the importance of striving for excellence
in both academics and sports.
Our Mission is to instill and teach
sportsmanship and how to set goals for themselves both in golf and in
life.
We support their goals whether they are wanting to play once a
week or going on to play in college.
The program benefits include the following:
A full time PGA Professional is employed to give instruction at clinics along with some 30 volunteers from the
community.
An assistant director and local high school interns round out the foundation staff.
The foundation also coaches and helps fund the Aspen High School Golf Team.
Golf clubs, bags, balls, tees, rules books, shirts and all necessary items are provided for any child that needs it.
A private practice facility consisting of a driving range, putting
green, bunker and chipping area are available seven
days a week, at no
charge to any junior golfer or volunteer. On course play one day a week
and discounted green
fees at the local par three course are also
available.
A skills challenge day, three rules and etiquette tests and a golf only viewing area are all part of the program.
We have donated over $600,000 to other youth programs and childrens
charities throughout the Roaring Fork
Valley over the past 22 years.
In it’s ninth year, the Aspen Junior Golf " Tour of the Rockies" golf
tournaments are a big success. The goal is to
provide competitive play
opportunities and golf education for any junior wishing to play. Since
2001, Juniors from
communities as far as Grand Junction have competed
on seven area golf courses due to the support from fellow
PGA
Professionals.
The Foundation now has permanent building
for the juniors. The old Aspen Golf Club Pro shop is open to all
juniors
and is considered their own clubhouse.
